Arbutus Ridge - Vanccouver

Arbutus Ridge is a quiet neighbourhood with tree-lined streets and is within close proximity to downtown. It’s a great spot for families with kids and families with dogs. Arbutus has a true neighbourhood feel.

Arbutus has a real suburban feel, despite being so close to downtown. There are small pockets of neighbourhood stores and coffee shops throughout the neighbourhood, but the retailers have taken care to ensure that they fit in aesthetically with the historic feel of the neighbourhood.

There are two community centers, Dunbar and Kerrisdale close by which have a large number of recreational opportunities.

Education - Trafalgar Elementary School sits within this neighbourhood. Kids can also attend the other nearby schools Carnarvon Elementary, Kitchener Elementary, and Prince of Wales Secondary School. There are a number of private and independent schools within driving distance: York House, Crofton House, Vancouver College, Little Flower Academy and St. Georges.

Parks and Green Space - Arbutus Ridge

The largest and most notable park in Arbutus Ridge is Trafalgar Park which offers lots of outdoor sports activities from soccer and baseball to ultimate frisbee. The park also offers walking/jogging paths and off-leash dog areas. Another great park in this neighbourhood is Carnarvon Park which has a fitness circuit, playground, and sports field. Carnarvon has beautiful trees in springtime including ash, plum, crabapple, and hornbeam.

Arbutus Ridge Real Estate

The houses here are made up of older homes and newer builds. The newer homes have mostly been built to embrace the heritage style of the region. Everett Crowley Park, which is the 5th largest park in Vancouver, is a green sanctuary in Champlain Heights. This park has 40 hectares of park space including an off-leash dog area.

Champlain Heights Trail runs through the neighbourhood and offers a great place for family walks. Captain Cook Park also has trails, as well as wooded areas and green space for outdoor fun.

While Coal Harbour is known for its skyscrapers and metropolitan landscape, it is located on the water and has a number of parks for residents to enjoy.

Parks and Green Space - Vancouver Downtown

Downtown is close by to the water and offers plenty of green spaces and parks throughout the neighbourhood.

Stanley Park is close to downtown. It’s a huge and renowned park and is a beautiful spot for a jog or run with its stunning walking path and also has tennis, lawn bowling, and rugby.

Emery Barnes Park offers plenty of green space, a walking path, a dog run, as well as a playground for kids.

Cathedral Square is the perfect park to enjoy a moment of peace with its beautiful fountain and greenspace.

Victory Square is a beautiful little park in the middle of downtown that has a monument, park benches, shady trees, green space, a walking path, and a small area for skateboarding.

Parks and Green Space - Vancouver Downtown Eastside

The well-known Stanley Park is close to this neighbourhood but within its borders, Downtown Eastside has a number of beautiful parks. Plus, the neighbourhood has water on both the North and South borders, giving beautiful views and a feeling of openness.

CRAB Park at PortSide is a tranquil waterfront park. It has green space, outdoor sculptures, a dog run, and a couple of play structures for kids.

Creekside Park is another waterfront park, but on the opposite end of the neighbourhood. This recreational spot offers grassy areas and a playground. During the summer months, many events and festivals are held here.

Concord Community Park is near Creekside Park and is a great place to spend an afternoon in the sun or enjoy your lunch. There are lots of seating and picnic tables as well as a beach volleyball court, a basketball court, and green space.

Andy Livingstone Field is an athletic field where soccer and baseball games are held. There are also walking trails and a dog park attached here.

There is a lot of parkland in this neighbourhood. It has over 2.07 hectares of parkland per 1000 people, which compares to Vancouver’s overall average of 1.12 hectares of parkland per 1000 people. For outdoor activities, there are few neighbourhoods as abundant as Fairview. The seawall offers incredible space for walking, jogging, biking, and running. Residents can enjoy watersports like canoeing, kayaking, surf ski, and boating. Granville Island offers fitness, watersports, dance classes, yoga, and tennis.

Charleson Park has beautiful walking paths with brightly coloured gardens sprinkled throughout. Residents can also enjoy a waterfall, pond, plus scenic bay and skyline views. There is also a dog park attached to it.

While the only park within the borders of this neighbourhood is the small Pigeon Park, which has benches, a small patch of green, and local art, the waterfront is close by and there are some parks that are just on the outskirts of the Gastown.

Restaurants here include ones with nightly music and rooftop patios.

Trout Lake Farmers Market, located in Trout Lake Park, is one of the most successful markets in the Lower Mainland. Trout Lake Farmers Market sees around 470,000 visitors every year. It has fresh produce, farm meat, fresh eggs, and dairy from local farmers. There is also sustainable seafood, craft beer, and local wine. Artisan baked goods and handcrafted items can also be bought here.

There is also a facility at John Hendry Park that has everything from a state of the art fitness center, gym, and ice rink, to an art studio for performing, painting, and pottery, as well as a pre-school.

Education - Families in this neighbourhood will enjoy the bounty of education options in the area. There are several elementary schools that service this area: Britannia Elementary, Lord Nelson Elementary, Queen Victoria Annex, Grandview Elementary, Queen Alexandra Elementary, Laura Secord Elementary and Tyee Elementary. As for secondary schools, Britannia Secondary, Gladstone Secondary, and Templeton Secondary are the options for this neighbourhood. Parks and Green Space - Grandview-Woodland

There are plenty of parks throughout the neighbourhood, offering residents plenty of space to get outdoors, stay active, and enjoy nature.

One of the biggest draws of this neighbourhood is Trout Lake Park / John Hendry Park. This large park has a stunning, large pond in the middle that is fantastic for fishing, boating, and swimming. The surrounding green space has jogging trails, an off-leash dog area, picnic spots, and a sports facility.

Clark Park draws in sports fanatics with its wide-open space, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer field, and walking paths.

Grandview Park is another fantastic family park that has open grass areas, walking paths, and a playground for kids. On top of that, there is a roller hockey rink.

Kids love playing on the playground at Victoria Park. Families can head to the spacious green field for outdoor fun or can take a stroll on the walking paths.

Grandview Woodland has a mix of commercial, industrial, and residential housing. This middle-class neighbourhood is full of young families, couples, and older residents. Quilchena Park is a large park with a walking path, green space, a disc-golf course, a skatepark and a garden.

Devonshire Park has tall, shady trees and wide-open grassy fields.

VanDusen Botanical Garden is close by. This giant park has a maze, multiple gardens, and plenty of walking paths.

Granville Island - Vancouver

Interestingly, Granville Island isn’t technically an island at all. It’s a sandpit that can be accessed by small tug-boat ferries that criss-cross over False Creek. With so much water around it’s no surprise that water sports are popular here.

Granville Loop Park - This park has a large statue of a 100 to commemorate Vancouver’s 100th birthday.

Sutcliffe Park - This tranquil park has a stunning pond for feeding ducks and beautiful gardens.

Ron Basford Park - This beautiful park is quite spacious and has green space and an amphitheatre. This park is set on a large hill and overlooks the water. There are plenty of trees with shade and benches.

Education - Templeton Secondary which is well known for its drama and TV/Video Production education is the secondary school for this neighbourhood. For the younger kids in the family, Dr. A.R. Lord Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Hastings Elementary and Tillicum Annex. There are also a couple of private school options for families: West Coast Christian School and Notre Dame Regional Secondary.

Hastings-Sunrise is a great neighbourhood for those who love the outdoors. With the water on the northern border and the middle of the neighbourhood filled with green space, this is a nature lovers paradise. Parks and fields make up about a third of the whole neighbourhood.

New Brighton Park - This fantastic park is situated along the water. It has a playground, wide-open green space, an off-leash dog park, a small beach, a walking path, an outdoor pool, and big shady trees.

Burrard View Park - Families can bring their furry friends to Burrard View Park to enjoy the off-leash dog area. It’s also a great spot for a picnic.

Hastings Park - Hastings Park is located in the middle of the neighbourhood and is actually made up of multiple little parks, sports facilities, racing track, food vendors, and amusement rides. It’s an incredible place to spend the day with the family. There is also a bike path that goes all the way around. Slidey Slides Park is one of the smaller parks in Hastings Park. It’s a park for both kids and adults alike. With extra-long and high slides, playgrounds, wall climbing, a sandpit, swings, and climbing structures, children can easily spend hours running around playing here. For adults looking to stay healthy and have fun, there is also outdoor fitness equipment, ping pong tables, beach volleyball, a parkour course, a track field, and soccer fields. Another part of the overall park is Hastings Park Sanctuary Small Pond which is an outdoor oasis with a charming wooden bridge, a sizable pond, green space, wildlife, hiking paths, and even an eagles nest. Hastings Skatepark is well-loved by the skateboard community. Callister Park has the feel of a typical neighbourhood park with a playground, walking paths, and wide-open green space. Plenty of green space for its residents. Devonshire Park is a beautiful neighbourhood park and Shaughnessy Park is an oval park filled with large, shady trees and a trail through it for tranquil strolls. 

The biggest green space that attracts not only residents but also visitors is VanDusen Botanical Garden. VanDusen Botanical Garden has 55 acres of beauty and is a wonderful place to spend the day. It has a maze made from lush green hedges and there are more than 7500 plant species to admire here. Their LEEP Visitor Center is award-winning and there are plenty of opportunities to spot incredible wildlife here.

Shaughnessy Real Estate  

Shaughnessy is home to the city’s oldest mansions with many of the originally built homes having been designed by Vancouver’s best architects. Many of the homes here have large, sprawling lots. Most of the homes in South Cambie are single-family houses and were built from the 1940s to the 1980s, but there are also a large number of townhouses. While there are not a ton of parks and green spaces in South Granville, there are a number of beautiful golf courses close by just outside of the neighbourhood.

Montgomery Park is one of the parks in South Granville. It has swings, and a play area with monkey bars and slides for kids. On top of that, there is a large open area for playing soccer, baseball or Frisbee.

There are a couple of small neighbourhood parks and green spaces throughout the neighbourhood’s boundaries, but this long, skinny, stretch of a neighbourhood has many beautiful parks close by and just outside of its borders within walking distance for its residents, making it a great spot for families and nature lovers.

Some of the larger parks around South Main are Riley Park, Queen Elizabeth Gardens, the incredible Bloedel Conservatory, Mount Pleasant Park, Prince Edward Park, and Guelph Park.

Being close to Gastown and downtown, there is plenty of great shopping and dining close by. The neighbourhood is also bordered by Chinatown which has a ton of incredible restaurants and unique retail experiences.

Education - There are two elementary schools that fall within Strathcona’s boundaries: Admiral Seymour Elementary and Lord Strathcona Elementary. Lord Strathcona Elementary recently went through a multi-million dollar upgrade and is attached to a community centre. High school students can attend Britannia Secondary School, which is just a short drive away. Another school in this neighbourhood that is worth mentioning is Vancouver Japanese Language School, which is actually the oldest Japanese language school in all of Canada.

Parks and Green Space - Strathcona

The Harbour sits on the top of this neighbourhood as a beautiful and fresh backdrop. There are a good number of neighbourhood parks providing green space and places for staying active.

Strathcona Park is one of the larger parks in the neighbourhood. It has a dog-friendly park with a playground, climbing wall and a skate park. There is also sports courts and an absolutely stunning community garden.

Trillium Park is the sports park of the neighbourhood with lit artificial hockey and soccer fields, a playground, shelter and natural green spaces.

Oppenheimer Park is a beautiful tree-filled park with benches, fields and a playground. It is also a site that is commonly used for community events. 

MacLean Park is a popular space for families during barbecue season.

Sunset - Vancouver

Sunset is Vancouver’s most ethnically diverse neighbourhood. The neighbourhood was mostly farmland and rural until the 1940s where a large wave of immigrants produced a need for Sunset to become a more residential neighbourhood.

Living Here - Sunset

Fraser River sits along the bottom of the neighbourhood. There is a retail strip along the neighbourhood where residents can find groceries, restaurants, and stores.

The Sunset Community Centre has plenty of incredible programs and hosts multiple events throughout the year. It also has a local art gallery and community gardens.

Parks and Green Space - Sunset

Sunset has plenty of neighbourhood parks and green space which makes it fantastic for kids and families.

Sunset Park - This beautiful park has all of the quintessential aspects. It has swingsets, a kid’s playground, grassy fields, a pavilion with picnic tables, walking paths, a dog park, and a skate park.

Memorial South Park - This beautiful, large, tree-lined park has a pond to feed ducks, picnic tables, and a playground. For sports, there is a synthetic turf field for soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse. There is also a large track.

Ross Park - This tree-lined park has an open field, a playground, a baseball diamond, and swing sets. There are also washrooms and a picnic pavilion spot.

The homes in Sunset are a mix of duplexes, single-family homes, and low-rise apartments. Most of the people who live in Sunset are families with children. Victoria-Fraserview - Vancouver

Living Here - Victoria-Fraserview

With the excellent grocery stores and a wide range of ingredients, this is a foodie’s paradise. There isn’t much in terms of nightlife here, but this neighbourhood is incredibly family-friendly with plenty of parks and recreational options for those with kids.

Education - For the young kids, there are three elementary schools in the area: Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, Sir James Douglas, and Corpus Christi. Older children can attend Sir Winston Churchill and David Thompson.  

Parks and Green Space - Victoria-Fraserview

Victoria-Fraserview is a fantastic neighbourhood for families and is filled with plenty of parks and green space for outdoor family fun.

Fraserview - Fraserview has something for the whole family. For adults, there is outdoor fitness equipment and a walking/jogging trail. For kids, there is a fantastic playground. For the whole family, there is a zipline, picnic areas, and large grassy fields.

Nanaimo - Nanaimo Park is a beautiful and large park that has sports fields, a baseball diamond, a wading pool, as well as a playground.

Bobolink - This quiet park has a walking path, wide-open fields, and a playground.

Gordon Park - Gordon Park is a popular place for sports. There is lots of open green space, walkways, tennis courts, a playground, and more!

Victoria-Fraserview Real Estate

West End - Vancouver

People who live here have nicknamed it “Best End”. Touristy neighbourhood because of Stanley Park and English Bay. Annual pride celebration happens on Davie Street and year-round you can see pink trash cans and rainbow crosswalks. The Celebration of Light, which is a fireworks competition, happens every year in English Bay.

Living Here - West End

West End is a historic downtown neighbourhood. The location to Sunset Beach brings many water-lovers to this neighbourhood and also makes this a popular tourist neighbourhood.  There is plenty of shopping, people watching, and delicious dining to be had in the West End. From cafes, libraries, movie theatres, and cocktail bars, this neighbourhood has plenty to offer its residents.

Education - For post-secondary education options, West End has plenty. The University of British Columbia has a Continuing Studies, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Medicine campus downtown. Sauder School of Business offers part-time MBA studies. The British Columbia Institute of Technology is close by as well. Simon Fraser University is another close-by campus for continuing studies.

For families, Lord Roberts Elementary, Lord Roberts Annex and King George Secondary are available for kids.

Parks and Green Space - West End

Right outside the boundaries of this neighbourhood sits Stanley Park. Stanley Park is a huge, 405-hectare public park that is surrounded by the English Bay and the Burrard Inlet. Within the actual neighbourhood is a long stretch of Sunset Beach and Sunset Beach Park. There are also a couple of smaller neighbourhood parks throughout the West End. Nelson Park is one of those parks that has green space and walking paths, spots for a picnic and an off-leash dog park.

Most of the real estate in the neighbourhood is made up of mid-rise and high-rise strata and rental buildings. On top of that, there are also older homes and some low-rise buildings. West Point Grey - Vancouver

Fiesta Days, which is an annual family-oriented carnival, is held here. It features a parade, performances, a midway and of course delicious carnival food. Plus, in July Jericho Park hosts the Vancouver Folk Music Festival every year. When that event happens the entire neighbourhood fills with music and tourists come to celebrate and enjoy the event.

Another great advantage of West Point Grey is how easy it is to get around. Transportation is a snap with incredible transit options and how compact the neighbourhood is.

Education - There are a good number of schools for this neighbourhood: Lord Byng Secondary School, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, Queen Mary Elementary School, and École Jules Quesnel. There is also a private school that goes from Pre-K to Grade 12, West Point Grey Academy.

West Point Grey has a ton of beautiful outdoor opportunities for residents.

Beaches - Jericho Beach, Locarno Beach, and Spanish Banks Beach offer students sunshine, watersports, beach volleyball, and family fun.

Parks - Locarno Park, Jericho Beach Park, Westmount Park, and Tremble Park offer plenty of green space for residents and families to enjoy. There are plenty of trails, a wading pool, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, lawn bowling, playgrounds, picnic areas, and running/jogging paths are all part of the outdoor fun in these parks.

Education - For those seeking higher education, Yaletown is a fantastic neighbourhood with nearby access to multiple campuses: The University of British Columbia, Sauder School of Business, British Columbia Institute of Technology, and Simon Fraser University.

Elsie Roy Elementary School is located in the middle of Yaletown. Lord Roberts Elementary is within walking distance from Yaletown.  For secondary schools, King George Secondary is also nearby.

Parks and Green Space - Yaletown

Yaletown is cradled by False Creek, offering beautiful views and a runner’s paradise as well as a long stretch of beach and beach park. On top of Sunset Beach and Sunset Beach Park, there are a great number of parks and green spaces throughout the neighbourhood and along False Creek.

David Pam Park has 10 acres of beautiful greenery. This park has wide open spaces, sports courts, and a playground for kids. There is a beautiful view of the skyline and False Creek.

George Wainborn Park is a beautiful park with a stunning water feature.   

Coopers' Park is located on an old sawmill it has a skate park, a playground and a basketball court.
